Artist Statement

For more than thirty years, my practice as both an artist and an art lecturer has been rooted in curiosity, material exploration, and a sustained commitment to visual storytelling. Working across a wide range of mediums, I have developed a particular affinity for graphite, oil painting, and mixed‑media techniques on fabric. These are processes that allow me to combine precision with expressive, tactile surfaces.

Animals, both domestic and wild, are central to my work. They are subjects I return to repeatedly, not only for their beauty and individuality, but for the complex and often fragile ecosystems they represent. Much of my fabric‑based practice focuses on species listed on the IUCN Red List, using image‑making as a way to highlight the urgent threats faced by wildlife across the globe. Through these pieces, I aim to confront the realities of endangerment while celebrating the presence and dignity of each creature.

Underlying my work is a belief that we share a responsibility to protect the animals with whom we coexist. Raising awareness visually, educationally, and through active support of charities dedicated to both domestic and wild animal welfare continues to drive my practice on both a personal and professional level. My art is a call to attention: a reminder of the interconnected world we inhabit and the care it demands from us.
